On Monday morning this week I had one of the biggest surprises of my life — while emptying the recycling I saw two cars coming up the driveway, and then out came Marla, Jeanne, Len and Ken.
Why on earth were they here? It was a little confounding.
Then they said something about a presentation and pulled from the car a most beautiful handmade bench! And on the back of the seat was a plaque with inscription — “Your Soul is Song” in the font from our concert program. I barely knew what to say.
They also gave me a beautiful PrueMadeIt card (including a bench under a tree!) with all your kind words. What an unexpected and special gesture of appreciation — you all are such a wonderful group of people as well as singers!
I wrote an email to the “stealth quartet” who showed up at my house, which I’m copying here below, along with a picture of the bench. (You can zoom in to see the inscription.)
I treasure you all and the singing we shared, and will enjoy sitting on it by our garden (it’s on the front porch for winter).
Sincerest thanks, and have a good Thanksgiving holiday. (You have made mine very special!)

Dear Len, Marla, Jeanne and Ken,
Well — in case you couldn’t tell by my dazed reaction to your arrival, you TOTALLY surprised me this morning. This is a short note to you all, but I will write something to all BC in the next few days.
The beautiful bench with engraving, and PrueMadeIt card with singer notes, are very special — really couldn’t be more perfect.
It’s been taking all day to sink in just how kind, open-hearted, generous and creative you and BC are. (Something I did know, but never quite so personally.)
And it was very touching (even cute) to hear you describe all the ins/outs of your planning and execution of the details and surprise (including conscripting Anne!)
I will admit that being away from the group and music has been difficult for me this Fall, but the love and appreciation you have shown me today is a true blessing. Thank you all so much!
