Jane Woods became Bel Canto's music director in fall 2014. This is a return engagement for Woods who led Bel Canto from 1991 to 1997.
Woods received a master's in choral conducting from Temple University under Elaine Brown. She also studied choral-orchestral conducting with Helmuth Rilling at the Oregon and Stuttgart Bach Festivals. She did additional graduate work at Westminster Choir College, workshops with the Western Wind vocal ensemble and Isaye Barnwell of Sweet Honey in the Rock, and participated in a Conductors Study Tour at the international choral festival, Europa Cantat XIV in Nevers, France.
Woods is the former choral director of Hanover High School and Richmond Middle School in Hanover, New Hampshire. In a career spanning 21 years at Hanover High, Woods directed the chorus and Footnotes Chamber Ensemble, and taught music theory. Over the years her ensembles distinguished themselves in festival competitions, an invitational multi-choir performance at Carnegie Hall, and five music tours to France. Additional responsibilities included music director of annual Broadway musical productions, All-State audition and festival preparations, and supervision of student-directed a cappella groups. For over 20 years she was also the music director for the annual Christmas Mystery at Dartmouth's Rollins Chapel.
